רבי חנניא בן עקשיא אומר, רצה הקדוש ברוך הוא לזכות את ישראל, לפיכך הרבה להם תורה ומצות, שנאמר יהוה חפץ למען צדקו יגדיל תורה ויאדיר.
(Makkot 3:16) Rabin Chananya ben Akashia mówi: Święty, niech będzie błogosławiony, chciał dać Izraelowi zasługi; dlatego pomnożył dla nich Torę i przykazania, jak jest napisane: „Ze względu na swą sprawiedliwość Pan chciał uczynić Torę wielką i chwalebną” (Izajasz 42:21).

Shimon, his son, used to say: all my days I grew up among the sages, and I have found nothing better for a person than silence. Study is not the most important thing, but actions; whoever indulges in too many words brings about sin.
